The Influence from Existing Products.

Warning- The video contains nudity, sex and violence.

Smack my bitch up from dwayne koh on Vimeo.

The Prodigy's controversial video for their single "Smack My Bitch Up" was a great influence to us. We unintentionally came up with similar themes of unravelling a mystery person at the end of the music video, it was only after we realised the similarities that we decided to relate to this video. The hidden conclusion in this video is very similar to our hidden conclusion, however the Prodigys way of presenting the story is a lot more controversial and impactive, as well as being quite abrasive and rude. However this is the brilliance of this video. They cleverly used the technique of Point Of View filming to hide there protagonists identity, as well as causing the viewer to assert stereotypical views of assuming the lead would be a male down to the actions they take as well as the band being male dominated. We have decided to try and effectively use this technique to our advantage to succesfully hide the identity of our secret lover.

Filming-Take 2

We went round to Jack Clegg's to film the small clip scenes for the various montages as well as the young boy segments. However we decided to get the young boy(ie Todd Cook)to mime the chorus. We set him up on Jack's bed and he sat there with a vulnerable look on his face. This is meant to be the result of what he had just scene. Which is of course a sexual act. Consequently he is shell shocked and confused. The character of the young boy is supposed to be the protagonists younger self. Therefore we filmed Jack sitting in the exact same position, so we can flip between them during the chorus to show the progression, and how seeing the sexual act has affected him as both a youngster and his present self.

Todd and Jack don't look like each other as much as we hoped, but i think it is suggested through the positions that they are the same person. Additionally we did film scenes of Todd in the closet (implications to the plot's narrative) watching the sexual act. However it is unlikely that we stick with the original idea of this being projected on either a wall or television screen. We will include most probably include these scenes during the chorus itself, so it isn't just a boring miming section.

Band Logo

This is a copy of the logo that we designed to go on the website and the digipak, it looks nice and simple but has a technological feel to it, as if to suggest its futuristic, fitting in with the genre of the band and its music. Here are some other options for our main logo/house text.

Album Artwork 1st Draft

This is the first draft of our album artwork for the digipak. The idea came from Jack, who remembered making spirographs when he was younger, he felt it was a good image to use, because it is quite futuristic looking, fitting in with the theme of the band. We placed an outer glow around the Spirograph. It is very simple, just white on black, however the complexity of the actual Spirograph gives it a 3D feel. Furthermore the logo is placed in the middle of the Spirograph, so it can be easily seen against the spirograph. However we kept it small, so it is subtle and less in your face. At the moment the album name 'Acolyte' is not present, this may remain to be the case, and just include it on the side of the digipack because as a group we feel it is important to keep the album quite simplistic.

Website Development

this site is more simplistic, however I think it is too simplistic, we need to replace the current delphic logo with out newly created one, and also need to change some of the colouring and layout, to make it look more professional and more futuristic to fit in with the theme of our band and album artwork.

This was our first draft of our website, I feel that it has many faults, the images of the people are not good enough, the site looks to cluttered and it looks very amateurish, not fitting in with themes we have been striving for thus far.

Filming-Plan for Shoot 2

As I said in the editing post, after reviewing our footage from our first shoot, we decided that some scenes were better than others, and we found ourselves with a lot of small gaps in which we would fit in small random clips. Although we need to film some of the party scenes again, most people couldn't make it, so we compiled a list of shots to film, as well as this we were finish shooting our video with the culminating "running scene"

A homosexual kiss
Lights being switched on.
A spinning coin.
Rolling of dice.
Protagonist looking into a mirror.
Washing hands.
Shower scene.
Crying.
Biting of lip.
Rolling/ Smoking a cigarette.
Drinking Milk.
Scrunching hair.
Key in a door.
Biting an apple.
Close up of eye opening.

All these may seem random, but in context they have hidden meanings and relevance to the narrative of our video. We will have to plan a date in the half term or soon after for the remainder of the party scenes, as well as the stuff we have to re-shoot.

The Process Of Editing

Here are a few screen shots of our editing process, at this stage we have the introduction, which you see below. We fit a large group of shots in to the first 17 seconds of our video. This section works really well so far and the use of strobe lighting really brings the effect we were going for.

This screen shot of our verse footage shows a nice over the shoulder shot, we felt during our shoot that these shots were working it very well. However on viewing the edited footage, we felt that the footage was not good enough to fill the whole verse. Our teacher told us on her first view that the footage was too static and although some of our shots were really nice, as a whole it was not exciting enough. Therefore we have rearranged filming again so that we can get some more animated shots. The editing is quite swift, I found the process quite tough at first but after getting used to using finalcut I managed to get to grips with it. We shared the task of editing between the four of us, with each of us taking a section of the song to edit.

Possible Album Artwork ideas

This idea is taken from the music video, it is the two main characters facing each other, to represent the themes of homosexuality, it is a simple prototype of early ideas.
